Andréa C. LeBlanc, Associate Professor in
the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery has accepted the
National Institutes of Health's invitation to serve as a member
of the Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Neurosciences
2 Study Section, Center for Scientific Review, effective immediately.

Congratulations are in order for Andréa LeBlanc, who was
recently awarded a Dawson Scholarship from McGill. The prestigious
Dawson award is given each year to McGill University ‘junior’ professors
who have made major scholastic contributions, and acknowledges
the significant input and importance of their work.
Congratulations are also in order for Dr. Stéphane Richard.
Dr. Richard was also awarded a Dawson Scholarship from McGill
University, in recognition of his outstanding research contributions.
Furthermore, he was named one of two national winners of the
Terry Fox Investigator award for cancer research. Dr. Richard’s
molecular work has implications for our understanding of both
cancer and aging. The award recognizes promising young researchers
doing outstanding basic lab work.
Dr. Hemant Paudel was recently awarded one of two national ‘Astra-Zeneca/Alzheimer’s
Society of Canada’ awards to pursue his studies of tau
protein and AD over the next two years.
Dr. Hyman Schipper has been made Director of a new JGH centre
for Neurotranslational Research. This centre will develop new
medications for a variety of brain illnesses, including AD, Parkinson
Disease, and M.S.
Dr. Howard Chertkow has been named Scientific Officer for a
new committee of the CIHR [Canadian Institutes for Health Research]
to award grants for research in aging. The committee – Biological
and Clinical Aspects of Aging – will fund both clinical
and basic research.
Andréa LeBlanc has been appointed a permanent member
of the NIA [National Institute on Aging] committee that oversees
awarding grants in the area of AD and Prion diseases. This prestigious
appointment reflects her international stature in the field.
